Explain the rules to me

Postby Christiank » Sun Jan 05, 2014 4:24 pm

I have earlier often aplayed with the cast metal puzzles, where you often take two objects apart. I got the isis ball in november, but I am not sure I understand the rules.

The goal is to open the ball. That is similar to what I know. I registered online and got some clues, which I deciphered (some of them at least, the rest I will manage).
But i am a bit confused about the whole thing. Can someone tell me if the puzzle is cultural (do I have to research stuff online to open it) or more combinatorial or mathematical (like the ones I know from cast) where you can shut yourself in a room with it for a long time and then solve it without using outside information.

i guess the whole clue thing got me a bit confused.

Also, what happens when you open it? I get the feeling that that I am supposed to travel somewhere to collect a prize or was this only with the first ones?

Also, is each puzzle unique or not? Would you be able to find the solution online? Or are they all the same principle but with some differences that make each one unique such that you can find a solution onine but you have to adapt a bit to your own ball.

I am really looking forward to having fun with the puzzle, but I have to understand it first :)

Thanks to anyone who might be able to answer my questions. Sorry for possible typing mistakes. I am writing on a a tablet.

Hi christianK,

My girlfriend has the same doubts as you. I gave her her first Isis, Isis Devil, and we do not understand very well the game or puzzle. We also have the disadvantage of language. We are Spanish and our English is not very good, but google translate helps a little :(

The clues will give you some pointers...

Christiank wrote: shut yourself in a room with it for a long time

that will help too...

no, but a good read of the website and the forum could help quite a bit to answer your questions.

Now that would spoil the fun, wouldn't it...

I am trying to find out if I am supposed to read stuff online or just examine the puzzle. You sort of said both things so it didn't really help me.

Is the puzzle unique or can you find the solution online?
Is the solution more combinatorial/mathematical (like the cast metal puzzles) or cultural?
It it possible to solve it just be studying the ball and not reading stuff online. Is this the way most people have solved it?

Thanks

Sorry if I was confusing!

One of the rules of the forum is that people shouldn't give too much away about how to solve the puzzles in the open forum - the idea is that you should figure out how to solve it yourself by playing with it. By all means figure out the clues on the website, and the forum will give you a few general hints.

What I was suggesting that you should NOT do is to search more generally on the web for a solution, as that would spoil the fun of solving it yourself.

Hope that makes sense...

It does help. You seem to suggest that the puzzle is combinatorial or mathematical in nature rather than cultural (something like turning to whoever was president in the correct order). This is good news to me :)
