Problem on re-setting an opened Isis

Hi gang,
I opened my Isis almost 6 months ago now, but last week after staring at the open puzzle on my bookshelf for so long I decided to give someone else the challenge (a bet with a work colleague and a bottle of whisky for Christmas is involved).
Anyway to cut a long story short, on screwing my isis back together it seems to have locked itself in a kind of half open half closed position, resulting in a large gap between top and bottom halves. Now I cant seem to unscrew or tighten the Isis either way. I know its impossible to solve it in this state so I should win my bet as my collegue knows no different, however I am a fair player and for my own mind would like the Isis in working order anyway.
Has anyone come across this problem before? and does anyone have any hints or knowledge of how to fix it please?.

I am sure I saved that photo, thank goodness I did, thanks for your advice i will do that straight away.
