I finally just got notice that my repair is finally complete, but it hasn't shipped yet. If it ships today I may get it by the end of the week.

apparently my son took the HD with him to his cousins....i am now backpedalling with xbox...
ah well as long as it gets fixed....that thing was bukoo $$$$....

Finally got mine back today. It came with a sheet of paper stating that if you have downloaded anything before that you now need to re-download it (and it gives instructions on how to do it though they don't match the new menus). I guess I have downloaded a ton of stuff before, game demos, arcade games, gamer pictures, themes, songs for Guitar Hero/Rock Band, etc. because I had 371 items to re-download. It took quite some time.

cool stet!...mine is in the "repairing" stage...i think my son had quite a bit of music on his but i have the hard drive...
i assumed everything was on the removable drive i still have in-hand....we got my son a copy of that aerosmith guitar hero with the guitar but he says its not as good as the others even tho its unopened.....
do you remember your serial numbers?...is it the same xbox?

played that split screen with my nephew...we are loving that game as well....mature content tho....gore/violence....

I don't remember my old serial number but I am pretty sure that this is a different one. They also tell you that you need to reconnect all of your controllers. The reason that you have to re-download everything even though it's still on the hard drive is to transfer the licenses. The downloads were quick, it didn't actually have to download most of the files, but it took a lot of time just due to the number of things I had downloaded with my old one (I didn't bother re-downloading any demos or videos, but I did everything else).

I just discovered another fun thing to do that they didn't warn me about. If you have any games installed to the hard drive, you have to delete them and re-install them.

we where very new to xbox live so we didnt have anything but a demo downloaded luckily....
hey stet can you give me a refresher course on those controller reconnects?...is it that small button on top?

small button on top of controller and i believe a small button on the xbox console itself, im not home atm so cant tell you for sure.

That's pretty much it. Turn on the system and the controller, hold the small button next to the DVD tray on the system until the lights blink, then hold the small button at the top of the controller until the player 1 light turns on. They did include instructions for this and for the re-download thing. I still have to reconnect all of my Guitar Hero controllers.

Oh, I also had to redo the setup for my Netflix account. It seems that every time I turn it on there is yet another thing I have to reconfigure...

one thing that ticks me off about xbox is you cannot delete your credit card info off the system...for some reason xbox has yet to make a feature to delete the card off your account when you want to *shrugz*
