alternate income Idea

Postby adamwest » Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:11 pm

I just had an Idea this ould be INSTEAD OF NOT IN ADDITION TO THE ADVENTURE FEE.

Who here would PAY to hide a free ISIS? I propose that they sell [say XX pounds] the chance to hide a coin, it would include the chance to locate a place on public grounds, hide a coin, write the clue, and have SW publish it and SW would ship the ISIS if your coin was found. In returm you would get your very own SW coin with something on it saying you hid coin #XXXXXXX. Any thoughts?

i am embarassed for the people complaining about $3.50 a month membership fee....i give more than that daily to homeless people here in chicago....i tip my coffee shop owner more daily......i am not panicking about being in the 500 club ,i am panicking that my friends are going to bail over 35 dollars a year.!
should we take up a collection for the adventurers too poor to pay $3.50 a month?
if you cant afford that you probably couldn't afford the puzzle to begin with!
do you all really want PUZZ to know your that poor? :?

Sorry, I find this whole post rather offensive.

If people are sceptical about this new membership fee, do you really have the right to question their motives? I certainly don't think you have the right to comment on someones financial situation and judge whether they can afford to be in this or not. And I certainly don't give a toss about what PUZZ thinks, either. Why would someone care if he thinks you're poor? Some people may have saved for the puzzle itself, and not be anticipating an extra cost now. What about the people who had the puzzle bought for them as a gift? Now they have to pay for the privilege?

ya ya ya we all know what happened with the Ramisis....so what, thats the expected future in your minds?....like the rest will be like that?

Short answer: yes.
The company has admitted financial difficulties and is asking the "regulars" to pay more now just to be able to get the next puzzle out, effectively.... do you really think that you will see Isis V? So far we have seen a number of bad decisions in terms of how the puzzles have been released and the communications have been handled. There are a number of people out there STILL without the Ramisis they have paid for, an even large number without a working one (me included, even after I sent it back)... I have had a problem with my account which I asked to be fixed in AUGUST - still nothing.

You have a working puzzle, and you opened it. Well done. Is this what has given you such undying faith in Sonicwarp? Have you forgotten all of the posts you made BEFORE you got to this stage? All the rants you made at Sonicwarp? All the posts you later had to delete? Back in the day when you didn't have the puzzle you had paid for and felt that Sonicwarp hadn't treated you properly?

If I decide NOT to continue with the adventure because of this new subscription, it is not necessarily because I can't afford it, and I resent the implication that it is because I'm either a) too cheap, or b) jealous (?!).
Isis - opened, Gold Coin won :)
Eagle Isis - opened
Isis 1C - opened :D
Ramisi5 - grrrr, jammed :(
Copernisis - opened
Tessarisis - opened
NKryptor opened, Pyrahunters completed to last level

I want nothing more than SW to go from strength to strength and do the 5 puzzles... ISIS 1 was great fun....but lets face it warning bells are sounding in the distance.
It must be hard to say to people: we need cash off you if you want to keep reading this forum (and therefore taking full part in the adventure). I think that comes across in Puzz's announcement message.

I'll proably pay it - I can afford it (well I can at the moment...) and want the adventure to keep going - BUT Steve- don't expect people to be happy about it! It aint really helpful to berate people who may not wish to - let them decide without pressure.

It's all a damn shame though - curse the credit crunch and the sub prime mortgage crisis! Or whoever's fault it all is :s
See you at the next Pyramid...possibly.

Like Hannah, I take offence at that. Unlike Hannah, Im not sorry.
The thing is (and Im sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong), that yes it's a small amount but I suspect most people can afford it, it's just the principal of it and the manner (or lack thereof) which we were informed about it.

cornettracing80 wrote:...or is it that you(the reader)..are jealous of his success?....think its a scam?.....what?
Now you come to mention it, yeh, the first thing that popped into my head when I first found out was that it sounded like a scam.

cornettracing80 wrote:ya ya ya we all know what happened with the Ramisis....so what, thats the expected future in your minds?....like the rest will be like that?
I defy anyone here to deny that there has been a pattern here over the years (or however long this forum etc has been here), and I've seen little sign of change, therefore I see no reason to assume the future should be any different... maybe you know something I dont?

Actually no, but unfortunately this is probably the point where I go from tolerating you posts and comments to not (kinda like the straw that broke the camel's back), although I feel further elaboration on this is beyond the scope of the topic.

Hmm, good point.

+1

To be honest I'll probably end up paying the subscription fee because I intend to stay in the adventure until the end (whether that's SW's planned end or the accountant's).
But for those who are struggling on the riddles, have all their friends from the forum on MSN too, and/or can't afford or just dont care about SW's financial situation, I hardly think a membership fee is much of an incentive to stay and continue their adventure.
As someone mentioned somewhere else previously, the forum is (sorry, was) one of the best places for new members or people interested in the adventure to get information about it (because lets be honest, the isis website gives very little information on what's actually involved), so personally I think the net effect will be negative (though I'd love to be proved wrong!).

[edit]and I wonder how many people have now changed their minds about joining the 500 club after this announcement?? I was planning on joining this w/e but I think I'll wait until the storm is over before I commit now.

I agree, with your comments BLUEDESIGN2K

It's about time someone stood up to cornett80.

Have your view Cornett80, I have mine; but be-littling people because they don't share your views is not what a forum is all about.
I do think you should try to keep posts to say just one or two a day, take time to think about comments.

Think Quality not Quantity.

I do hate making comments about others here, and Steve please think about your reply and don't just call me a C**t

As too where I stand on paying for the forum. I can afford it, But I won't be paying for it. I think Puzz should reconsidered this idea and think of another income stream. I have posted elsewhere my thoughts on alternative income ideas.
