i am not sure but i assume its because a lou is a toilet in europe....like my dads name is john...same thing ... :(

The spelling is different, the toilet one is spelt "loo", but........does anyone know why the word "loo" refers to the toilet?
I know one version of the story, but I am not sure of its validity, lets see how many versions we can find.

i am out of this conversation..they are toilets,john,pot,potty...porcelain goddess..when your "praying" there after too much booze... :lol:
umm throne..thats about it ..i am very interested to find out where "loo" came from tho.... :D

The room 100 story is the one I heard, although I heard that it was the Victorians because the wanted to be discrete and not write toilet on the doors.
I also apologise for helping to highjack LouIsis's page, maybe admin or a moderator could move this to another page, but I am not sure about "potty talk",
Maybe "word history" and folk could post other stories about the history of the words that we use in everyday talk.
