What ever happened to...

Postby haggis » Tue Oct 07, 2008 1:42 pm

I was thinking today that Ive been involved in this adventure for nearly 2 years. Then I got onto thinking about some of the people that were involved in one way or another but have now dissapeared into the shadows.

Dave Thomas - Andrew Reeves' original partner and joint inventor if the isis puzzle. I wonder what happened to him?

Keltic Fox - Prominent poster then became a moderator. A bit of a loose cannon but seemed to get things done and hid a few isis along the way. Gone deep and silent on most of the forums now as far as I can see.

Erica - Office Manager (I think), was always great on the phone and seemed to know what was happening with most things. Has she moved on to greater things?

Ade Nash - Well we know he's still around but no longer working for SW.

Neilsc- Another mod that was very prominent at the outset but has now gone deep and silent.

I think Dot-head is still around and Karen_G keeps us all in check from time to time, but its strange how things develop. Maybe somebody should write a paper on the lifecycle of an internet forum...

As far as I know, Keltic Fox was the original designer of the Isis, had a falling out with SW, wouldnt hand over the design plans and SW reversed engineered the puzzle from prototypes (remember the Dragons Den episode?).

Im not sure thats completely correct, but there again, I may be wrong.
I though KFs fall-out was related to restrictions to his 'Moderator' style.

Hmmm, I can't find it. There was a cypher posted, that (I think) Karen got the answer to, but nobody managed to work it out the way it was intended, just from extra clues.

Does anyone know where it is?

I could well be wrong, there is a small bit of info on Wikipedia, I believe I read some other forum in the past where I came away thinking Keltic Fox was original inventor/designer - then the Dragons Den episode revealed some more without mentioning names....

The Dragons Den episode is probably on youtube somewhere?

Haggis

From what I remember, Haggis' description is more correct.
I may be wrong but I believe there was a disagreement between KF and Dot-head over a forum "tidy-up" or something, and I think SW "sided" with DH. Hence, KF faling out with SW.

Urban rumor has it that Dave Thomas didn't want to continue with the project fairly early on(for whatever reason) and so came to some agreement with SW to part with the company with his share.

Neilsc is a busy guy and I gather isn't around all that often.

Dunno where Erica went? Perhaps Andrew locked her in a puzzle?? :?

Here's the cypher with the additional clues SW provided :) I haven't included the answer in case anyone wants to have a go.

I eventually worked out the correct answer from the clues provided by SW. However, I never did work out how to get from the actual cypher to the correct answer, even knowing the correct answer!

Just so you know, all the cyphers I've created for the Isis ARE breakable, and dont require any form of computer analysis. All the cyphers can be solved with pen and paper and a good eye.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You wont find this cypher anywhere, as I wrote it myself :D
-------------------------------------------------------------------
dont give up!

Its one of those things that if you just look at it from a different angle you'll get it.

And it will be simple when you know how.........
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Folks,

I can see your all clawing to get some help on this one so ok here goes...

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYz

Puzz
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Cypher III - its like surfing, once you learn how to do them its easy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Alphabet - your looking too deep, the Z is the first letter to the answer

Surfing - what do you need to surf ?

Ok, thats enough explaining for one day

Puzz
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The answer is NOT Zambesi.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
watch out for dragons again this July
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The answer is NOT zephyr but it definately begins with a z as in the text it said...your answer is incorrect apart from the z of course
-------------------------------------------------------------------

KelticFox wrote the cyphers for SW, I believe he was also involved in making Pyrahunters. But I don't think he had anything to do with the design of the ISIS. He did have a falling out with SW, and has since kept the full solution to Cypher III a secret. He promised to tell us a few months back, but never did :(

Unfortunately Erica has left SW, I spoke to her a few times when she worked for SW, and she was always very helpful and friendly. I've heard that she now has a very good job elsewhere, and I wish her all the best :)

Karen :)
