Oh, we fully empathise with being beaten to the goal...
Family outing, three and a bit hour trip, only to get there by 09:00 and see that within half hour someone had just pipped us at the post... But, we spent the day out in Buxton... lovely day, just so unlucky to have been beaten to it by minutes by another, well done to them...

I hats off to all of you who have got the chance to search for a free ISIS. I know it must be frustrating to search and not come up with anything. But you have got out there and looked, Lodgecrest is right, it's all about the journey  and it sounds like he has had the most.

Yes, it's all part of the fun! :D Even when we were traipsing round the wrong (in retrospect!) lake in the pouring rain.

Geocaching had this problem, caches were going missing as 'muggles' would find them, not know what they are and more than likely move/destroy them. so they started putting laminated notes explaining what they were, prefably in top part of the cache (or at least that's what I did) so it'd be the first thing you see when opening it and therefore hopefully read it, and put it back/leave it alone.

I've not been out searching for a free isis yet (still to discover a location for a couple of them, and even then it's a case of what's closest, if i even can get there!) and looking forward to the wonderful joy of trying to get my b/f to take me where ever to search for one, so i've then got to be 99% sure of the location and prove it to him! otherwise he won't take me... unless... there's a nice bit of biking road and the weather is decent!

I don't think the world is that care giving to if they stumble onto it and it reads something like "go here to this site to claim your reward" is going to just put it back where it was, That is why I'm glad they don't have info on the coins because to me finding out all the days I've had not being able to sleep to some extent thinking of what the possiblities are to the riddle and doing so much research and what I've learned on the background of the places, I would just be upset to go and find out some stranger who came no where close to what I've researched and looked into for them to just have it handed over to them. Though for putting that coin into the dogs mouth seemed kinda easily obtainable by anyone because any tourist coming along looking to take pics with there kids would most likely put there kid up to the dog and the kid would poke around for the fun of it and then into the dogs mouth and go whats this, I mean if I found a piece of old cheese and Phoenix has found a disfigured coin, that just shows most ppl seeing that dog stook there finger in its mouth, wether they were looking for that coin or not. lol

At least if it is found and there is some info with it, they're more likely to claim it and then it'll stop us from puzzling over it for days or weeks after it has disappeared and then getting upset over the fact it's disappeared cuz someone's obviously been very lucky in finding it... whether they intended to or not!
obviously it's not going to left by people if it says the word 'prize' on it, but i was saying in the case of geocaching - which is usualy full of bits and bobs that's not worth anything anyways, so will be likely to be left.

From what i've read here, if someone beats you to a free search then it's tough titties really, and that it's even worse when you've actually visited the place and not spotted it and even been centimetres away from it!

i found about 20 pounds of chewed bubblegum.. the adventure of me and my father going to the museum in a treasure hunt capacity was really cool and i wanted to find it so bad .....some times i get myself too worked up over a very "chance" kind of thing....oh the joy of finding that coin must be glorious...
erin i am very depressed to hear you say you do not have an isis....if i find the free chicago isis i will have it shipped to you...i will be keeping the coin but you can have the puzzle itself...=]
no joke i have 2 isis 1's, i just want the coin...

i dont think anyone else with as many posts as erin is without a puzzle, lets work on getting one in erins hands.....

Your generosity overwhelms me cornett, truly.
It's not to be sad about, just playing the game differently! :D
To be honest, I have promised (should I ever succeed in finding one) it to my Mum, she is a puzzler, I just like the thrill of the chase and the mental challenge (some say I am mentally challenged  ).
The cyphers, the clues, the searching, has always intrigued me.
It's the journey sometimes and not the destination, hmm. ??

I personally would be ok with the website being put on the coin. Then I would know if the October coin has been found or not, so I can stop spending money on gas or entrance fees going out there searching for it. I mean, I think anyone who has been working on the October coin would be a little miffed to find out it was accidentally found after all the hard work many of us have put in trying to find it. (even with the many clues  ). Who knows, maybe the coin was found back in November and we all have been searching for a phantom coin all along. But if there had been a website on the coin, we all would have known back then. Maybe it's just me, but I would rather know that it had been found by accident than to search for it for weeks or months when it isn't there anymore.

I thnk it would make sense to add something to the coin (website or otherwise) to make people (muggles) realise that it it part of some larger treasure hunt.

To be fair, if I just found a gold coin in a hole somewhere, I'd keep it. However, if it mentioned an address or anything to take it further, I'd certainly try it.

This would at least let us know which ones had been taken :-)

lmao @ muggles....i have to wonder if the coin here in chicago may be on display in some pawn shop..but i do understand SW reluctance to dismiss this search as the clues are hard and the coin location may be secure...
it is fun to fantasize about finding it...if someone does find it we will look like whiney babies lol
