Clue help and progress on solving the Isis

A new adventurer with some loaded questions.

Postby Feep » Mon Dec 17, 2007 2:07 pm

Hello, everyone! My brother first sent me a website regarding the ISIS at 3:30 AM in the morning, and I was entranced. Still, such a purchase was not to be made lightly, so I researched until I came across this very forum, where people were nice and cool and absurdly enthusiastic for the little metal sphere. Your writings inspired its purchase, some days ago! I'm not very far, and some of these questions may not be able to be answered outside of the 5% club, but hey, I'll ask anyway.

1. I actually asked for the ISIS (U.S.) as a present for Hanukkah. It was given lovingly and in shiny paper foil, but merely in the display case; my parents had thrown away the Sharper Image box! Blasphemy! I thought it was irrelevant, but there have been implications on this forum that there were hieroglyphs on the box that might be relevant. If these are in fact relevant (even slightly), does anyone have a .jpeg of the outside of the box? I hate feeling that I might be crippled from the very start.

2. Upon receiving my ten clues, I immediately figured they must be standard substitution cyphers; they are indeed. After solving the first by hand, I decided it was far too easy, and decided to write a computer program to solve substitution cyphers FOR me. I succeeded! If anyone is interested in a .exe or the source code (written in Python, quite easy to understand), I'd be happy to share. The algorithm is usually much more interesting than actually performing the task at hand, I find.

3. So, here's the one you might not answer. I have, by strict definition, "decyphered" the clues. They are now in English, and make grammatical sense. However, when people on this forum use the word "decypher", I think they're often using the non-literal definition to mean "to figure out". My question is, do I need to look for meaning within the clues themselves (things like double meanings/entendres, cleverly worded phrases, etc.), or is there another technique for actually obtaining new words (an example would be, take every seventh letter in this clue and put them together to make a new sentence)? I don't want to be setting foot on the wrong path, and these two directions are quite different.

4. Can you all confirm the eleventh clue to be "the dominant theory for the creation of the universe"? And is this clue necessarily chronologically ordered after the other ten?

5. Thank you! I appreciate your time. I look forward to joining the 5% club...someday. = D

Hey Jason,

Welcome to the adventure.

Question 1: I'd go to a Sharper Image Store and have them show you the box. A picture might be hard to get (shiny and small print box)

As for the answer to the rest of your questions = Maybe :)

Sorry, your ask some very good questions that can't be answered, hope you understand. Looks like you have a good head on your shoulders though. You'll get it.

Damn they're some clever questions.
I've opened my Isis and I never even asked myself some of those questions.
I didn't use the box at all to open the Isis I would imagine it would help. I opened my Isis more by luck than judgement in a fit of rage...there you go I admit it.
The 11 clues plus some playing about should be enough.
The 11th clue being about the start of the universe is correct. As the Isis will become quite a big part of your universe (sad but true) I think it is a very clever clue ;-)

good luck

I can't answer the question but someone once said the Yellow Pages is a useful book for finding things.

I thought GOD created the universe. So you need to mail it off to him to get past that stage. Contact Santa Claus he has GOD's phone number.

This being said in Jest not in Mockery.

see what I mean, if that is a clue I have no idea what it means or how it pertains to the Isis. Obviously I thought the Isis was taking the P**s out of me on more than one occasion, I'm certain the clues to the pyramids are however taking liberties at my expense.

I wrote that in reference to the sending the ISIS to GOD for help bit. I wrote that so very religious people would not get offended.

That being said in Jest not in Mockery = means it was just a joke I'm not making fun of GOD or Santa Claus

Hi Feep!
Welcome to the forum, and a very fun adventure.
Wow do you think clever thoughts.

Yes get the box, Yes share your decyphered program, and Yes some of your questions belong at the 5% forum ;)

Considering the relative short time you have had your isis, and the condierations you allready have been through, I woulden't worry that much...you'll get there fast I'm sure.

Best of luck and a good hunt to you.

Hi Feep,

Welcome to the forum :)

Feep wrote:4. Can you all confirm the eleventh clue to be "the dominant theory for the creation of the universe"?

Yes, this is the 11th clue :)

Feep wrote:And is this clue necessarily chronologically ordered after the other ten?

That's for you to work out

Please do not share your Python program though, the clues and the ISIS are supposed to be worked out by the individual, Thank you :)

1. Yeah, I'll go to the Sharper Image sometime with a pen and paper and copy stuff down. Good idea.

2. Right, right, sorry...I guess you'll all have to wait until I join the 5% club to see my brilliant code! = D

3. Darn.

4. Thank you!

(grin) In the thread above this one, anima999 said:
I remember vaguely that the clues [in the U.S. version] are different but the mean the same, it was just the wording I think.

This indirectly answers my third question. Thanks, anima!

There should have been a booklet with the cyphered clues with the ISIS. Some people said they did not get on, in that case you could get the cyphered clues on this forum or on the main website.

Yes, you can also buy the decyphered clues for $10 each from SonicWarp. Unfortunate, the clues look harder than they really are.

If you purchased your Isis from The Sharper Image in the US then you should have a booklet. If the booklet is not present it can be downloaded by logging on to the Isis Adventure web site, selecting "Your Adventure" and then the link at the top "Download the Instruction booklet here"

If you purchased your Isis in Europe then there will be no booklet in the box. Download it using the instructions above.
