im getting sick of logging on and ignoring the general chat, because i know its just the game continuing.

Do you get all exctied that theres a new post that might be really interesting then go on a downer when you see it's us lot just spamming the "game" thread?

Yeah, you can remove the game now. The site where I found it has nearly 100 new posts a day, and most of them in the game. It does get really annoying after a while.

Mmm, yeah, right, there you go. If you think its had its time, fair enough, sack it off. Perhaps we should be exercising our grey matter on something more challenging, something like pyramid clues for example..


At the very least it will free up space for something else as I can't see anybody wanting to archive it.

this must not in any way be taken as critique, it's merely a comment on how forums work in general. those who have been online for a long time will probably recognize the following :)

Threads like "The Game" tend to pop up on just about every forum sooner or later, and as you say they might be fun and amusing in the beginning, but then people start to dislike it. The reasons for this can be many. It could be that it takes the focus away from the other more serious threads and topics, and if you visit a forum regularly and the only thread that has new posts is the one similar to "The Game" I can understand the "frustrations". Of course people like to read interesting posts, but then people must actually post something. With over 3000 registered users (not all of which are active, I know) this forum has quite a low post rate compared to what I've been used to in the past. It is however, one of the more fun forums I've visited :) When people finally post it is perhaps a good idea to write something of interest rather than complaining, or whining which is/was the more common term used. It's like complaining that there is a porn channel among your TV channels when all you have to do is choose NOT to watch it :) Twist the brain and find something interesting to write about.

And again (usually needs two reassurances to avoid someone taking this personal) it is ONLY a comment on the way forums work in general. History has a tendency to repeat itself :)

Use your heads to post something of interest, I really like this forum :)

I think this is a good point actually, although this is pretty much the only forum I'm regularly active on thses days, it is by far and without exception the quietist I've ever been on...

I can see bing and Karen's point, and I sympathise because I have the same view on "The Isis Search" forum (mainly because I have little interest in looking for an Isis since I already have one), but I simply tend to ignore that part of the forum.

The good thing about "The game" thread is that as theres no particular topic so it's a place where new members can pop in and make an appearence
I've also noticed since that thread was started there's less long periods of no posting on the forum in general, it kinda keeps the forum on simmer if you know what I mean.
By all means lock the thread if that's what the majority wants, but I've got a feeling the forum will quieten down again if you do

In all honesty, although I find the game thread amusing, I have no objection to it being stopped if that is what the majority call for, no skin off my nose as it were. It is a light hearted thing, hopefully not offending anyone (most of my posts being food related, ha, ha).
I dont feel it takes away the focus from the other items on the forum, just acts as a 'comfort break' for the non-smokers out here...

as this is the general chat topic at the moment, and thats the most annoying part( not knowing if there is something new)

how about if the thread be moved to its own area, so, as it has been said, if you dont want to look at it you dont have to! and people wont miss a new general chat item!!

all those who wish to partake in it can and all those that dont, dont have to!!
