Hi everyone, no-one has asked me not to, so I'll go ahead and say where I've looked so far (and potentially save some heartache). I meant to post this on Saturday to help anyone who was heading out there this weekend, but I got sidetracked and forgot all about it (sorry!)

I'll put it in spoiler tags so anyone who doesn't want to read it doesn't have to (just highlight it to read):

Places I've searched:
The path between 5 & 6
The path between 6 & 8
All of the gates around 8 (CC)
Posts 5,6,7 & 8
The gate near 7 (on DH)
The gate near 5
The two crossroads east of 5-6
The crossroads near SHR
The 'X' orienteering post - was sure I'd cracked it with this one!
The pylon marked 24 on LM (6-8)
The aerial 'X' near 5 on aerial photos of the site

Ideas I've discounted:
Sticks used to mark 'X' (they have a tendency to uncross)
Painted 'X's - Crown land, so you'd be daft to wander around with a spray can
The 'X's on the dangerous-looking pylons 5-6 (I certainly hope SW wouldn't put it near these!)

Ideas I've still got:
Trees falling across each other (they make pretty permanent 'X' and there aren't many about in a largely pine wood). I've checked all the ones along 5-6 and one particularly good one by the Eastern 'X' at CC
That orienteering post! I was so certain I'd cracked it with that, I've not completely given up on it yet!

If anyone has a problem with me posting this info, just let me know and I'll remove it. I don't want to spoil anyone's fun, but as there are two August ones out already and I've tried to be semi-cryptic with where I've been (it's not much help if you haven't found the location and map). Anyway, I hope this helps someone - just let us all know where the little blighter has been hiding!

Thanks for telling us about your search. We've searched high, low, under and over as well.
Are we all sure its actually there and SW are not having a laugh with us? At Bellever there were postcards so at least you new you were in the right area.
Has anyone seen a postcard?
I think someone hasn't checked its still there or we are all up the creek without a paddle cos it's floated away in the floods!
Prehaps another clue is needed.

I was working in Reading again yesterday, so I popped down after work and checked out:

The area around WC, SHR and (due to some shoddy map-reading) the EMBA

My long-suffering mother was interested in a walk, so I dragged her along too, but she wasn't expecting it to be quite as taxing as it was! (She also didn't factor in my atrocious map-reading, or the massive hilly bit on the red route )

(ten)I'm all out of ideas for this now, anyone else had any brainwaves?

You have probably covered more than anyone on this of those posting here, but there maybe others out there keeping things close to themselves.

I cannot interpret the online map to add anything new to what you have checked. I thought the OS map might highlight something but not much difference. The online map misleads you into thinking it is a small area but in reality it involves a lot of walking. Which brings me to an idea that past locations have been close to car parks. This might be for ease of returning to the site to check it is still there.

my uncle and aunty (colin@tina) got us into the isis hunt we went down to the new forest isis we went a few times but did find it . so when colin@tina said there was a isis in swinley forest so couple of weeks ago we went to bracknell look for the isis we went to the star posts and i looked down the path looking for a X i looked up and saw some x on the electic posts and said look there is x so my dad look round the bottoms of the posts he got wet feet he look round all of them ,we walk up and down between the star posts and the only X we found where those in the post, we did not find anything so we went home unhappy again the next week end colin@tina went over to look but they didnot find it .so then last weekend colin@tina ask me if i would like to go with them on sunday to look .we got there and started to look for the isis i told them it has tobe under the poles so i started looking round the bottoms of the poles after the frist two set of poles still not found anythink we cameto the 3rd set of poles i jump thourgh the bracken and kicked a box then i saw then isis inside the box uncle colin has got some photos of me finding the isis he will post later

Well done, and congratulations. Your persistance paid off. I looked at the electric posts with the X between them at star post 5 but thought better of it and didn't want to be get a shock so I gave up looking. Looking forward to seeing the pictures!

And thanks for updating us on finding it as this saves others going to the expense of looking.

Congratulations on finding it Lewisis! Very well done! I'd been looking high and low for this one and couldn't track it down, so congratulations again to you!

On a side note, I really think that hiding the Isis below a 'Danger of Death' sign sets a worse precedent than having to disassemble ancient monuments. There are memorial cards for a chap named Ryan, along with several bunches of flowers, around pylon 23 on the Ladies Mile (less than half a mile from the location). I particularly love these woodland searches, and have had nothing but great fun on all of the Isis searches, but I sometimes feel that SW *really* need to think about the locations, and the implications of them, in more detail.

On the other hand - you've given me more entertainment and exercise in the last couple fo weeks than I've had in the last year! Thanks again for running this fantastic search and for reawakening my treasure-hunting instincts, and most importantly, CONGRATULATIONS TO LEWISIS!

secondly, i think you're being a little harsh on SW.
surely the danger of death refers to peolple climbing up the poles?
i dont think SW can be held accountable for idiots that try to climb?
