It was a coin.

Not being picked up by a metal detector.....interrrrresssstttinnnngggg....I will have to experiment.

Does it matter if the material is non-ferrous for metal detectors?

I just did an experiment with my coin using my old Tandy Micronta 3001 metal detector (not the most sophisticated of devices) and it picked it up easily using both ferrous and non-ferrous settings. It was getting it from about 8 inches above.

Maybe you didn't dig deep enough, Lodgecrest :lol:
Seriously though, bad luck on that one. I know how you feel. Look on the bright side though, at least it was only one visit. I feel sorry for the person after the IOW one - they went about three times with no luck, and SW have recently informed us that it had disappeared!!!
