As this seems to have been going on for quite some considerable time with various people having a shot at it myself included,I thought I would have another look at it and see if I could breath some more life into it. I had originally thought, along with others that the structure was a trig pillar and unless you are a geologist, a lump of rock is just that, a lump of rock. My first outing was into the pennine hills to Blackstone Edge This was a fruitless journey, apart from the view of course, even though the trig was in an elevated position, there didn't seem to be a reasonable looking line of sight and apart from that the afore mentioned rock didn't look right either. This is where I left the search for some considerable time until a chance chat with Toxophilite giving me his twist on things sent me to the coast.
The idea was that there maybe a connection with other coins previously hidden in the North Wales area. The first place we looked at was on Anglesey at Llanddwyn Island,(+53° 8' 6.76", -4° 24' 55.75") a beautiful location, a couple of lighthouses,
some old light keeper's cottages, some other old and derelict buildings, but nothing that looked promising. I couldn't find that elusive structure overlooking a hole in a rock. One saving grace, the rock, its markings and surrounding vegitation was looking like it may be similar to what I was looking for.
A couple or three weeks later and it was off to mainland North Wales, to Porth Ysgaden, yet again another beautiful area, made more so by the glorious weather that day. There are quite a few structures/buildings in and around the various coves in the area but again none seem to fit the bill.
I took this photo as it showed very well the black coloured rock similar to that shown in the bottom of the clue picture, thing is though, this black rock was where the sea had covered it at high tide makink me think that the place we are looking for is around the same level.
Below is a picture of a cove used for one of the previous searches
This location does have some appeal if only for its beauty and I will certainly visit again. There are, like I said earlier, lots of little coves up and down the coastline so it cannot be ruled out as a possible coin site. It'll just take a good deal of searching to find the exact place.
The best of luck to anyone who takes this one on.
I hope Puzz reads this, at the very least it will remind him of a place once visited.
