Pyramid 17 - Birmingham

News about forthcoming pyramids and coins

Postby haggis » Fri Jul 18, 2008 1:49 pm

That's very poor.
I never actually visited the location as I live in Yorkshire but I would have been mega pissed off if I had traveled all that way to find that the pyramid had been removed and nobody had the courtesy to post it on the forum.

I understand your frustrations, why am I not surprised?

This is indeed apalling. You are not surprisingly very annoyed. What is worse is that the pyramid is still listed on the website, so again we have SW taking our money for password guesses under false pretences. I was planning to have another guess myself in the next few days!

I am intrigued to know what the dispute with SW might be - when I visited the pyramid a month or so ago the keeper seemed very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

 WTF?!?! Not cool!
Im glad I hadn't gotten around to making any guess on this pyramid yet!!
I take it none of the mods were aware of this??

I can see only three possible resolutions to this...

The pyramid is not replaced, and therefore anyone who used the password checker for the Birmingham pyramid will be getting a refund for all their guesses on that pyramid.
OR
The pyramid will be quickly replaced at a location close to the old one and using the same password, and anyone who managed to find the pyramid at it's old location will be informed of the new location.
OR
The dispute will be resolved and the pyramid put back where it was.

On the face of it this seems pretty much inexcusable, but I'll reserve judgement until I've heard SW's side of the story...

As much as I like the puzzles and the adventure, SW seem to have alienated more than a few of their previously loyal customers lately :?
The best of it is that many of these situations could have been avoided by with just a little communication beforehand!

edit: as ScottyBot pointed out in another thread, it would appear that the pyramid has been moved and the password kept the same as the first line of the riddle has now changed... might have been nice to have been told though  meh

OK, I'm now feeling a little guilty at posting that without checking the clue first.

It certainly would be nice to have some mechanism whereby we could be notified of any changes on the pyramid pages, but then, this is an adventure, and it could be argued that keeping us on our toes is an (albeit puzzishly devious) part of that adventure.

If, as it would seem, they have moved it and kept the password the same, then I think that is what I would expect them to have done given circumstances I imagine outside their control.

So let's see who can find the new location! Now what am I up to on Monday? :D

Sorry evilkeen, some mechanism = a simple post
What difficult circumstance would stop that.

Complaining is not my nature but this time I cannot forgive so easily.
So to keep us on our toes we must check the pyramid.....how often ?

Yes I do take your point absolutely, but there again, when new pyramids are placed we don't get posts - we either keep vigilant ourselves, or we wait till someone else who is vigilant puts up a post!

It would appear that 17 is not the only riddle to change, riddle 38 has mysteriously been rewritten in German.

True, but in the past we have had update posts when there were riddle errors.
I can understand not getting posts about new pyramids, but if details on existing pyramids change for no obvious reason (an obvious reason perhaps being that the pyramid has been refilled because it had all its coins claimed), then I think perhpas there should be posts from SW :?:

Im just gutted that I've only recently found (and visited) the old location, and now I have to stop work on cracking the riddle and start work on trying to find the flippin' pyramid again  Oh well, just another twist in the adventure I guess :P

I haven't ever spent any time on this one, but just out of curiosity, where was the old location?

This is what I suspected, sometimes when parts of the riddle change; it actually provides some clarity as to which part of the riddles means what.
I have found that with some of the riddles it is not always obvious which part is the location and which part is the password.

Well now it has, but come on, let's enjoy the fun of finding the new location. I think it will be very happy in its new home.

Nah, there's nothing like the fun of driving all that way, finding that beautiful pyramid, having a pleasant chat with the guardian. At least that bit is doable, unlike cracking the passwords! Double value from this one now on that score! :D
