I thought that I would post a few approximate statistics of the UK for our American friends.

The UK covers an area of about 96,600 sq miles, (similar area to the state of Wyoming)
Including our periphery islands our coastline is about 6,000 miles long.
The mainland is about 600 miles long and about 300 miles wide.
I believe I am right in saying that you can not be more than 100 miles from the coast anywhere in the UK.
According to different websites there is between 183,000 and 270,000 miles of roads* in the UK, about 3,500 miles of motorways (interstates)
Although the UK is only a small island, in her heyday she controlled about

OK a Quid is a slang name for 1 pound, like your Dollar is a "buck"
a shilling is a coin from our old currency which was changed in 1971, it use to be five old pence, but some people who remember the old coinage still call five new pence a "shilling".

The coinage we have now,
1,2,5,10,20,50,1 pound and 2 pounds, these are all coins.

In paper notes we have
1(in Scotland only) 5,10,20,50,100,500,1000 pounds, I don't think that they go any higher, I may be wrong about that.

In the early fifties, as a young teenager, I made pocket money by pulling driftwood off the beach. Sawed it, dried it, chopped it, tied it, and sold it round the doors as kindling. It was a fair earner for pocket money. Twenty bundles at a tanner apiece gave me ten bob; everyone else was on half-a-crown.

Thanks for the update guys, the stats for the UK were found on the internet, so therefore I think that they are reasonably accurate.

The facts about the money are only from memory; I did say I wasn't sure.
After a quick google it would appear that bluesign2k is more accurate, and for our southern members, here is our seldom seen
