Researching

Obviously, we all use Google, as it's amazing. But Google searches often turn up erroneous information and a lot of things unrelated to what you actually want (can rarely be avoided). What other methods of research do you use? Have you found any particular search engine to be better than all the rest?

I use google but my search phrases often end up very long as refine them quite alot with -'s and other terms.

This may sound crazy, but make a list of fairly random words, and add one of them to the end of your search.

I was researching the old London riddle once and added the word gondola. It had absolutely nothing to do with the riddle or the information I was searching for and yet the information I needed was number one in the google search

I was trying to find out what a J59 was and it turns out it was what the transformer hound turned into. Doing a seach for J59 alone just returned all sorts of useless information.

It may sound like I had a lucky break, but the reason it works is that it filters out a whole load of google rubbish and may provide some extra tips for your search, or avenues that you hadn't thought of.
