Stuck magnet?

I hope I'm not making any spoilers as I have yet to open the NKryptor, but here are my observations:
I have got my NKryptor, and I can see there are 3 rods through the gap between the layers.
I have managed to shift the rod closest to the edge out of the way (and placed a piece of paper in the way so it hopefully wont go back into locked position).
However, I cant get the middle or deepest set ones to move at all!
From other puzzles, I understand the possibility of magnets involved and see they have differing magnetic polarities for each rod.
Could it be mine is stuck or is my magnet not strong enough. I am only using a small magnet that I got from taking apart a spare cupboard door catch. Unfortunately, as it is rectangular, it has left some small indentations on the surfaces.
I have noticed when rocking on a horizontal axis, there is some internal movement, but not sure if this is one of the rods or the electronics/PCB?
Any info would be gratefully received
