Differences between the Ramisis and Ramisi5?

Postby Karen_G » Tue Jan 13, 2009 4:45 pm

Hi,

I've noticed a few differences between my Ramisis and Ramisi5. However, I'm not sure if these differences are because they are different versions of the Ramisis, or whether SW have changed the Ramisis design within the first few months of production? So I thought I'd post to see what you all think :) I haven't opened either of them, so the following observations are based on the closed state.

Here are the differences:

1. On the Ramisi5 I can push the key chamber in about 2mm and it springs back into place (flush with the outer case) when I release it. I cannot move the Ramisis key chamber at all.

2. When I turn each layer on the Ramisi5, each layer makes a clicking sound and has a stepwise motion. The Ramisis is the same except for the bottom layer. The bottom layer turns smoothly, there are no clicks and there is no stepwise motion.

3. On both the Ramisis and Ramisi5 I can see a small gap between the top layer (with the placenta) and the 2nd layer. I can see a thin circular piece of metal between these two layers, it looks like a washer. This gap can also be seen on my Ramisi5 between the 4th and bottom layers, with a larger circular metal piece/washer between them. The 4th and bottom layers are touching on the Ramisis and I can't see between them.

4. The top two layers (which turn together) are much harder to turn on my Ramisis than on my Ramisi5.

5. A placenta symbol is engraved on both my Ramisis and Ramisi5, but the markings on the underside of the 3rd and 4th layers are only found on the Ramisis. *This is known to be a difference between the Ramisis and Ramisi5 as posted elsewhere on this forum.

6. The lights worked for about 1 week on my Ramisi5 (which I received first). The lights have never worked on my Ramisis, which I received over a month later.

Please let me know if your Ramisis/5 are the same as mine. I received my Ramisi5 first so if SW have altered the design, and the above is not specific to the version (Ramisis or Ramisi5), then I'm guessing my Ramisis has been made to the newer design.

Thank you :)

Karen

My key cylinder situation is the opposite of yours, but everything else that you listed seems to match my observations of my still unopened Ramisis and Ramisi5 with the exception of turning the top 2 layers, they seem about equal to me. Even my lights worked/failed the same as yours.

I have the Ramisi5....

And I have a zero and a 1 engraved here and there (can't remember where exactly just now, on the inderside of one layer and the topside of the next one - or maybe the other way round)

I can push the plunger in a tiny bit

I see the top washer - not noticed any other washer

I'm sure I get soft clicks when roatating the base on it's own...

I'll check all this later!
See you at the next Pyramid...possibly.

I can sometimes feel slight clicks when turning the bottom section, particularly in one place. The key chamber can be pressed in and the lights never worked.

My Ramisis has minor gaps between each layer, just enought to see through, and show something that has not been mentioned on the forum yet, and shall pobably not be mentioned outside a certain club. 8)
The bottom section can turn without sound, but clicks just like the rest if i compress the ramisis while turning it.
I have held another Ramisis in Essen that did not have any such gaps (at least I did not notice during the short observation) and had a more "rigid" clicking in all the layers. That one just felt better and more robust than mine. I thought (and sometimes still think after another long session of turning and shaking) that my own Ramisis might be faulty, but Puzz told me it is fine and can be opened as normal. Therefore I assume that production tolerance causes the mentioned differences in sound and amount of space between layers, and they do not affect the puzzle opening method, nor do they indicate a differnce between Ramisis and Ramisi5. My Ramisis has the placenta engraved, and the 0 and 1 symbols on the bottom sides of two adjacent layers (which I therefore call layer 0 and 1, yielding the base to be -1 and the top to be 2+3). The keychamber can be pushed in a mm or so, the lights... well, let's just ignore them, they are ignoring me too!
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

The original Ramisis that I pre-ordered and my Firebox Ramisis are slightly different in design.
The newer model functions exactly the same as the older one, the modifications which are discussed in the 5% club, seem to have been introduced to make the puzzle more reliable, this is not saying the original is unreliable, but with hours of twisting and turning the original became loose, like a well used rubics cube. The newer design is much tighter and smoother to operate, I think by now my newer model has had more twisting and turning than the older model.
It is the newer one that I let friends play with.

I ordered a Ramisi5, but believe that SW sent me a Ramisis. Mine is exactly like Karens discription of the Ramisi5, except that i have 3 engravings on my layers. the lower of the two middle layers has a "0" on the top and bottom of the layers. the middle layer has a "1" on the bottom of its layer. anyone else have two "0's" like i have?

Karen, my Ramisi5 key chamber is like yours for your Ramisis, it doesn't push in at all. After getting frustrated with my Ramisis last night (it appears as if I overshot the twist needed to take the puzzle apart and I may have actually reset it back to the starting point) I started working with my Ramisi5. I have now gotten to the half way point and not only did my key cylinder come out, it shot out half way across the room! So I don’t think you will have any problems with yours. Just be careful of it when you get to the right place in the puzzle.

I think keeping your fingers crossed while trying to open you Ramisis will add an extra unnecessary element of difficulty... my top tip is to get someone else to cross their fingers for you  :P

Thank you all for your responces on this :D :D

So, of the differences listed above, number 5 (the markings) appears to be the only external difference between the Ramsis and Ramisi5 - that we've noticed so far anyway

I've looked but I can't see anything else in either of my puzzles, but hopefully I'll find out tonight when I open mine (wishfull thinking   )

Hi Huszar, the Ramisi5 has "Ramisi5" engraved onto it, instead of "Ramisis". If it does say Ramisi5, it's unusual to have the additional engravings, you may have a unique puzzle there :D
