Crazy theory...

Does anyone think that the rotations of the ramisis should represent a word of some kind. There are clearly starting points marked on the device (0 and 1). So you'd get 16 turns per layer. Dya think these could represent letters?

In the correct order they spell out "o p e n s e s a m e"
