Ramisis = Lottery

The area for discussion about the Ramisis, the 2nd puzzle in the Isis series.

Ramisis = Lottery

Postby glewra » Mon Nov 24, 2008 5:32 pm

After recieving my Ramisis at the weekend i've had a couple of stints playing with it. I've deciphered the codes and it all seems pretty straightforward.

Clue one kicks you off, and i'm pretty sure i did this right as there was a definite resistance when doing it, which has now gone.

Clue 2 meant nothing as i don't seem to have a working light, either than or it is obscured.

When it come to clue 3 the puzzle becomes a bit of a farse :( - Completing this 'stage' would seem to be entirely down to luck. Yes, I can hear the object(s) - i think theres 2 - that the clue refers to (even over the sound of the key rattling, which i've fixed by jamming a tooth pick in the whole). As far as i can tell, even with key wedged, clue 4 is impossible. You can't tell where the object is by this means, and you can't hear it 'change lanes' so to speak, over the noise of the ball-bearing ratchets. I'm beginning to think that it's just a question of holding the thing in the correct orientation and randomly twiddling - Not much of a puzzle in that; No skill involved whatsoever.

Someone please tell me i'm wrong and that i'm just missing something - as it stands i think this puzzle is crap. Well made, but ulitmately crap. At least, once you'd deciphered the clues for ISIS you had a damn good chance of opening it. Ramisis just seems like a lottery.

Does it get any better once you've released the key - Does that introduce an element of skill?

I'm already tempted to take a hacksaw to it :twisted: and i've only had it a couple of days!

Don't get me wrong - i don't think i should have it open by now, i'd just like to be able to guage whether i am making progress. As far as i can tell you can't, until the key pops out!

I think (think because mine is not opened, but going off what others have said) that once you know how it works, it is repeatable.

This would lead me to believe that you just have to figure out what the inside 'looks like' to figure out what you are doing.

For those of you that have solved, can you confirm that once you complete the puzzle that you have an "aha" moment that allows you to close your Ramisis and then reopen it with out "the luck of the lottery"?

The short answer is... no :?
Up until now the bit after getting the key is exactly the same (but harder) as the bit you need to do to get the key.
This is mainly because I still can't really tell where the BB(s?) are within the puzzle... if I had found a way of knowing "where I was" then things would be different.
For me, this thing is only gona open after an infinite number of random moves... best get back to it then I guess :lol:

There is an infinite number of possible moves however you only need to find a couple of dozen, then put them in the correct order.

Sadly it does not appear to be a logical puzzle. :cry: I have paper everywhere and I'm sick of sticking it in my ear trying different methods. To everyone who has opened it a big WELL DONE :D I must admitt I really have lost interest in it and that's ashame as I do love puzzles, sadly I agree with you and think it is a lottery :) :) You will just have to keep the faith and you will open it one day. As for me I'm willing to just leave it in it's box and forget I ever bought it(at least I got the key out :D )

I haven't solved it yet but i believe this is a logical puzzle. i have spent some time trying to map this out in my head... between that and a few other things and trying out ideas with shaking it to see if my ideas were correct - i believe that it does have logic to it... and if my thinking is correct a very cool logic at that.

Gather Around ITS STORY TIME..get your blankies and come over here...ok.....when you guys get your ramisis's open and see that there is absolutely about as much luck involved in opening the ramisis as there is in opening a combination style lock....NO..i say..it is not a "gotta get lucky" puzzle....and some of the most prominent puzzlers on here are in this thread..are you guys kidding me right now?.......the mechanisms arent loud enough for you to beleive they exist inside the layers??...you paid all that money to be frustrated...your getting your moneys worth..thats the idea..but at no time should you fool yourself into thinking the Ramisis is anything short of a "clockwork" puzzle....you got your moneys worth on this baby....
understand i know every inch of the puzzle and if it where a cheap piece of crap i would tell you ....puzz has my money just like everyone elses

Mine was not solved by luck
There are one or two bits that are really difficult, but ultimately they can all be worked out logically.
In some cases it is a case of eliminating all the possible methods until only one remains.

It took me 3 weeks to open mine the first time - possibly the longest it has ever taken me to solve a decent puzzle. The next attempt still took a few hours, and I now have it down to around 20 minutes or so.

It is a logical puzzle, just a very very difficult one. In fact, I would say that the Isis was much more of a get lucky puzzle than the Isis is.

Having just got the key out I can confirm that there is indeed a logical approach to opening it (the key chamber at least) - Like the ISIS you have to think about how the puzzle might be made and how you might do clue 3, given that construction.

So not a crap puzzle after all, just a crap user! :lol:

I can't see a light though, so i'm not sure if it's working :(

Next step to break open the bugger!

after puzzling for a bit last night i started to figure out some things to it that when repeated gave me the same effect - its starting to make sense now - i took cornetts advice from a different post of turning off all sound - even fans - i turned off the lights so i had to use my ears and it is starting to come together.
