my layers keep going stiff, the top layer more often than the others. (REALLY stiff)
Is this normal? Does this mean progress is being made?
I think I've gone back to the top and then back to the bottom after getting the key out. Im also convinced I can hear atleast 2 rattles!

If you feel resistance, then you're probably close to opening it. It's possible to do it right without even knowing and accidentally turn too far also, as that's what I did my first time. If that happened, you may have inadvertently reset it and now you have to do the whole process over from the beginning. It took me about 5 tries full around the entire process before I finally didn't "go too far". Good luck!
