Isis Adventure Membership Fee

Postby cornettracing80 » Wed Dec 10, 2008 11:56 am

2 pounds a month is such a small fee it has to be "running expenses"..i dont think you can even be a member of a porn site for 2 pounds a month...and 20 pounds a year?...i spend more than that in an hour at the pub,yeah?....i have personnally been wondering in this economy how puzz was keeping it together....we really needed a few more of you to join the 500 club...see the coalition between the january 1st deadline /membership charge....he tried to avoid it...you will all purchase the full set why wait?.....anywho...i have searched my soul and found that this is not unacceptable to me.
This adventure has been a "if you have to ask,you cant afford it" kind of thing from the start...we should all have seen this coming.
I am all in, ..i have no choice but to be positive and try to keep as many of you from quitting as possible...something i seem to have to do about every two to three months now....**looks at puzz****
The more we pay the better it will be period...you get what you pay for.....we rushed puzz on the Ramisis..you know we did...more like herassment
we are not children..(by law  )...i want quality products that are very impressive....not walmart junk....and as i have proven i am willing to pay for it.
the price of a "granda Latte" from starbucks a MONTH??....we need something better to cry about this is nothing......

You gotta pay to play the last three holes...so what!!!

thank you lodgecrest for inspiring me to look at the positive side :P

PUZZ is a grow-up also and no matter the pressure if i set a susspence at work and don't meet it then it's my fault. i am not covering for puzz here, he is what he is.
as for the pay to play, not sure, if a puzzle cost more the charge more don't try to sell it for one price then slide in more fees. we shall see.

I don't think it's the amount that's the issue here. It's the principle.

Currently i've paid £150 for a Ramisis puzzle that doesn't work (Puzz is being very helpful, but it still doesn't work, and will be going back). To then charge another £20 a year on top of what i consider is already an expensive puzzle is just rubbing salt into the wound. I don't remember seeing anything about further subscription required on the box!

I suspect that it is perfectly legal to change the adventure in this way, even if it does appear a little underhand - i'm going to check with my brother (he's a barrister).

To be honest, this smacks of a company in financial trouble, and one of the reasons i won't sign up to the 500 club is that i need to be convinced that we'll ever make it to the end of the ISIS series and won't tie up £500 with no return for n years (if at all).

is all out negativity considered constructive criticism in The UK?...I feel like it is on us whether or not this thing makes it to the end.....do we sit back and say "ok ,lets see ya do it then"..or do we all agree to MAKE IT HAPPEN!...are there any business today that are not "in trouble"?...the major car companies here are looking for a bail out like the banks just got....WE may have to keep the Adventure alive...are you all opposed to that?...how much have you in it already?...what then if not?...i give 2 craps about the awards i want this man to be allowed by the world to complete his dream.....i have considered the possibilities of collapse and have dreamed of aquiring puzz's remaining plans and having my set completed at a CNC shop here.....i can not believe that the "sweepstakes" end of the adventure has everyone so caught up they have lost the vision of 5 puzzles ....
I believe the research and development on a product of this nature is absorbanatly expensive ...i dont know how he could read this mudholes posts and have the esteem to continue
i guess the line between hardcore fan and sweepstakes winner wannabe's has been drawn in the sand..its just a matter of what side you chose to stand on.
you know you love it here ....if your reading this you love it here.......20 pounds a year to stir your dormant brain cells and excite your soul.....what are ya gonna do instead?..my guess it will cost more than 20 pounds a year...
hate to see one single member leave..seriously

It's been a fair while since I logged onto the Adventure as I'm bored of looking at near impossible riddles
However, I do like to come to the forum on a daily basis.
I am now being told I will need to pay £20 a year to read the forum.
A forum which is a free download, and is maintained by people who are not on a salary
(EDIT: And the content is produced by those who visit it)
(EDIT2: And it's not even using a custom theme - just the free one that came with it)

Ade, Kevin, Bing - if you continue moderating, you should be looking for a cut of the income!

My views, copied from another topic on this subject:

anash27 wrote:...after the collapse of The Sharper Image Sonicwarp have been hanging on by their finger nails. They had already made a huge quantity of Isis for TSI towards an order worth hundreds of thousands of dollars/pounds before TSI folded, cancelling them completely. I think everyone would agree that they would hate to see the adventure close, to keep it all going requires income. The puzzles themselves are extremely expensive to make, SW only really make money on direct sales, sales to retailers make little if no profit. Add to this the cost of the free searches and the pyramid prizes, you are left with an accountants nightmare.

As people have rightly noted, over the last few months SW have introduced increasing inventive ways to raise money, ways that some people dislike, but ways required to try and ensure their survival. At the end of the day Sonicwarp is a business, a business that is fun from the outside but a nightmare to coordinate and manage on the inside.

I can see and understand why they are going down this route, they HAVE to, to survive. Something we all would like to see I'm sure

I can understand why this charge is being introduced, SW obviously are doing their darndest not to let everyone down by dissappearing, and although there may be different, more rewarding and more fun ways that we can all think of to create new income, this way doesn't hit our pockets hard (I think people are more miffed about the sudden announcement than the monetary value of the fee), and it also utilizes something that is already in place with no further outlay, the latter being a crucial point to a business that has been hit by the TSI thing as well as the changing economical climate.
I don't yet have a Ramisis although I'd love one, and this is simply because I can't afford it. If I could afford it I would buy one. If I could afford to enter the 500 club I would. I will do anything I can to help SW carry on, because I know that as well as wanting to earn a living for themselves, all involved also want to make a gripping and fun adventure for all of their customers. I know that with a solvent and profitable business Puzz would be channeling money into the puzzles and rewards for OUR enjoyment.

So YES I will pay the fee.

YES I will keep reading and posting on the forum.

And I will also recommend the adventure to anyone I feel would enjoy it.

Ask yourself, how much enjoyment have I got from this adventure, this community, this challenge?
I for one want that to continue.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I totally agree. It was never announced any other then the registration page which no one who isn't registering for the first time would see it.

To be honest this just sounds like your panicking that you've just paid for the 500 club and realised that there's a possibility that you'll never see ISIS 3 unless more people pour in cash :?

glewra wrote:I don't think it's the amount that's the issue here. It's the principle...
I 100% agree....
I'd love to buy a standard Ramisis and join the 500 club and paying £2 (or whatever) per month isn't a problem for me (money wise).
But I feel just adding this to the T&Cs and not actually announcing it is monumentally underhand, just feels like I'm being bummed :(

glewra wrote:...I suspect that it is perfectly legal to change the adventure in this way...
Hmm... you think? I think that would depend on what parts of the adventure we're having to pay for...

Again, I totally agree (as above^^^)

This is a(nother) sad day for the isis adventure.

But hey, do I spot an increasing audience for The Isis Adventure EU forum ?

Maybe more of 'us' will now join the 420 club?
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

where the hell did all this come from? a membership fee......... personally i dont see a fee being a problem regardless of the price as i enjoy logging on and feeling part of a community all obsessed with these lil objects of frustration. but im a bit shocked that we might have to use this path to inject some money into the isis adventure. if it wasnt for my unhealthy use of the internet i would of never stumbled across this adventure, i dont believe SW should be trying to claw money out of our already empty pockets (this might just be me) i feel they need to explore another route with advertising. how often do you look in a news paper, walk past a shop window, watch a tv advert, flick through a mag?? with all of these combined i have never seen a single advertisement for the whole of the isis adventure or its products!!! there is no bait on the hook to get fresh meat in!! im sure some one will say "where will they get the money to pay for this advertising?" i havent got all the answers, but what a scary world that would be if i did!!!
