Thanksgiving Day Trip

Well...i had planned to take my wife to see her parents in West Virginia...so i got up at 3pm...worked wednesday night until 1 am..got home got everyone up and we left by 430am...i drove first knowing around hour 22 i was going to be really starting to dim down....so i was driving got into Kentucky ...we went down through indiana into Kentucky..everything was going well...then the wife took a nap....and apparently so did i.......i was supposed to follow route 64 east at lexington Kentucky..instead i didnt vear off at lexington i continued on 74 south...well...by the time she woke up we where almost in Tennessee..ahh roughly about 100 miles too far south...did we trun around and go back to lexington and connect with our road?......all together now.....HELL NO...we had a MAP!..oh my god!...we took the "backroads" through the mountains of southern Kentucky...i saw a man raking leaves in front of his shack in a department of corrections jump suite and his curtains where rebel flags....thats just one thing ..we shouldnt have been where we went...anyway we spent about 2 1/2 hours getting back into West Virginia ....it is very beautiful and yes i did listen to bluegrass gospel while going around the mountains...for anyone who doesnt know what i mean its like a paved rollercoaster for cars..you cant go very fast but its still crazy and the views oh man...anyway while we where in West Virginia..we got pulled over by a cop who was wasted or something...he pulled us over and started explaining how here in W.V. they stop at red lights...my wife was driving she was like what?..he looked back at the light ..looked at my wife and said.."your fine,ok..nevermind"..and walked back to his car and drove off...we sat there like "what just happened?" ...i do truelly and dearly love the state of West Virginia...Beckley,Oak hill ..And god bless Robson on top of deep water mountain...where i stole my wife away from that place...shes all city now but when i was engaged to her and she took me "down home"...i fell in love with "almost heaven,West Virginia".....waffle house,biscuits and gravy .fresh cut tomatoes with breakfast...man i am still there yall....i am still there

p.s. broke my all time record ..3pm wednesday till 11pm thursday night...no help other than one mountain dew...that sucks ,it actually hurts

the drive home took 12 1/2 hours due to snow..it was a long trip

Cops seem to forget about giving tickets when your out of state it just becomes a warning, guess they realize it would be a hassle for you if you decided to fight a ticket. But ya never know there could be one cop who wants to be a ****head and try to give you a hard time and likes the out of towners so you got lucky

I've actually met one of those cops! About 12 years ago we were on a road trip from Missouri to California. My Dad was driving down this perfectly straight, never ending road through Kansas, there wasn't another car in sight. So my Dad put his foot down slightly, nothing major, about 12 mph over the speed limit as I recall. My Dad drove under a bridge and hiding behind the bridge was a cop car! The cop pulled my Dad over and charged him with speeding, I think it was a $70 fine! As we're from the UK it was a pain to find a place to pay the fine. I took a picture of the cop giving my Dad the fine and we teased my Dad with it for years

lol I live in that area you actually drove past where I live, small world!!!! even funnier I think that I got a ticket there yearly this year, I got it deffer, which means that if i don't get a ticket for six months then it won't go on my record. so what did you think of Kansas? I am not from Kansas [just here because of work] I am from Colorado which you might have driven through also. It was hard to adjust to driving here after driving in Germany for awhile!!!!

To be honest we just drove straight through Kansas, I remember stopping at a trucker diner for lunch which was fun, but that was about all we did in Kansas. So I guess the main thing I remember about Kansas was that one very very very very long straight road! We only had 3 weeks for the holiday and we wanted maximum time in Missouri (visiting relatives) then Colorado springs,the grand canyon, las vegas (although I couldn't gamble as it was only 9 months before my 21st birthday - The age limit is 18 in the UK), Los Angeles and San Francisco. It was a wonderful holiday though

your kidding me right?..oh man you have missed out on something very wonderful..

a biscuit is like a breakfast "roll"..its baked bread but real small..about the radius of a isis 1 ,but about 2-3 inches thick..yummy by them selves..then they cook some bacon..after that they put some flour into the bacon grease and brown it real good...add some milk and water...cook till it thickens...thats the gravy..its a sauce like food...very rich...bacon,eggs,biscuits and gravy is a traditional southern breakfast..thats why we are all fat..
cut up a fresh tomatoe and you have a really great breakfast....

next time we will discuss "Grits"....the mysterious southern breakfast side order....

my daughter is 17...i have commited myself to family trips until she leaves the nest...its been a grea time for the most part.

this reminds me of karens story - i got pulled over in march driving through nebraska... the cop asked me do you know how fast you were going? i said uhhhh 80... hes like youre right... well turns out the speed limit was 75 - he ended up getting a full car search out of me for that one...
5 mph over and i got invited to sit in the squad and consent to a car search in the middle of nebraska... argh - never drive through that state.
