Your Desktop!

Postby Happyhannah » Tue May 13, 2008 5:53 pm

I've seen a topic like this on another forum and it was quite interesting, so I thought I'd try it here :-)

From Windows default to pictures of your dog, from minimalistic "My Computer and Recycle Bin" to cluttered "I can't find it if it's not on the desktop", your computer desktop says a lot about you!

Instructions for the not-so-savvy: go to your desktop and press PrtScr, then open an image editing program (like Photoshop or Paint), then press paste (or ctrl-v). Save the image and upload it to a hosting site like Photobucket or ImageShack. Paste the link here :-) ... if you don't have a hosting account yet - get one! You will need it to get into the 5% club, so you might as well!

Anyway, to business! Here's my current desktop:

It's a panorama of screenshots I took in the game Oblivion. I'm trying to keep my desktop tidy at the moment, sorting the usual junk I leave there into folders... it's working so far, but by next week it'll be the usual bombsite of downloaded files and half-finished work :)

Nice background!
Oblivion is such a cool game!!
I'm not sure what my background picture was on my old laptop as there were far too many icons cluttering it up  I'm just in the process of setting up my new laptop, so it's a bit dull at the moment. But give it a week and I'll have something worth posting.

Cool idea!

PS Did you ever get the Shivering Isles add on for oblivion? I'm not sure whether it was on all platforms, but I got it for the 360. It increased the game size by about 20 or 30%.

No, I heard that Shivering Isles had a game-breaking bug in it that affected large save games (it couldn't store items over a certain number so just deleted old ones, and this problem gets progressively worse) so I decided to wait to get it... and never got round to it in the end! I will do at some point, probably this summer. As I have it for PC, my game size is regularly expanded (at a near exponential rate) by mods! The more mods I get, the more I want to add :)

Do you mean what monitors do I have?
At the moment it's two 20" widescreens side by side, but to be honest I'd really like it to be 2x2 instead... maybe a project for the holidays

screen envy

Postby adamwest » Wed May 14, 2008 12:54 am

If I wasn't so secure in my manhood I might get Screen "length" envy. my laptop is full of icons I could use the space just for that.

I certainly have monitor envy! I've got 2 19" ones, but more space is always good :)

When you guys are talking about desktops I take it that you mean backgrounds, so here is a photo of my desktop with my backgrounds shown.
The more observant of you will see a trend going on here. On a network you PCs all need different names, so I picked the names of the computers on the mining ship Red Dwarf.
Image
On the notebook is Queeg, he appeared only in one episode,
On the left monitor is Gordon, again he only appeared in one episode,
In the center is Holly, he is the usual Red Dwarf computer,
On the right is Hilly, she is Holly's feminine side,
On the sat-nav is Holly again, he is the only Red Dwarf computer that could go mobile (as far as I can remember)

!! That's FANTASTIC! I love it! Actually, Holly (female) was used for a couple of series too, if I remember correctly.

I love the Isis collection too :) let's see: 1A, ??, ??, 1, 1C...?
