Most of us know Petrol <=> Gasoline.
But what's the US equivalent of diesel (heavy oil)? And do many people use diesel engines for every day use? More and more people in the UK are switching to diesel because of the rising costs of fuel.

In my old car, (a 2.4 V6 Petrol), to drive one mile would cost me on average 28 pence
In my new car, (2.2 turbo diesel), to drive one mile costs me on average about 12 pence.

Hell of a difference! And the only reason I switched is because of the cost of petrol. If we had petrol prices as in the US, I probably wouldn't have. Hence my question as to whether many US people have diesels.

don't know about americanism but the universal word for diesel is Derv.
- at least that what gets supplied from the refiner.

Oh and as for cars... 58.2mpg combined this morning on the commute. Maxed at 141.2mpg for about 3 mile on the M74. I love the consumption rate of my wee car.

no not an import, ford is pretty big over here, we have our own ford factories and everything lol.

escort was massive in the uk in its day, replaced by the focus though.

if I was gona get a yank car tho it'd have to be a mustang (if i was wearing my sensible hat) or a viper if i could afford it!

cant wait to see the cars in vegas when i go this summer! im probly gona stay in the luxor hotel since its shaped like a giant pyramid too...maybe ther is a massive prize inside lol?
