i as well am not sure why Andrew keeps making these "customer angering" decisions either..again i have to assume its to keep the adventure afloat ..but that is a fine line.....
500 Club members are exempt from membership cost....another benefit!
I can also see the rest of your point too, but, after the collapse of The Sharper Image Sonicwarp have been hanging on by their finger nails. They had already made a huge quantity of Isis for TSI towards an order worth hundreds of thousands of dollars/pounds before TSI folded cancelling them completely. I think everyone would agree that they would hate to see the adventure close, to keep it all going requires income. The puzzles themselves are extremely expensive to make, SW only really make money on direct sales, sales to retailers make little if no profit. Add to this the cost of the free searches and the pyramid prizes, you are left with an accountants nightmare.
As people have rightly noted, over the last few months SW have introduced increasing inventive ways to raise money, ways that some people dislike, but ways required to try and ensure their survival. At the end of the day Sonicwarp is a business, a business that is fun from the outside but a nightmare to coordinate and manage on the inside.
I can see and understand why they are going down this route, they HAVE to, to survive. Something we all would like to see I'm sure
