Wonderful idea but not Oedipus I'm afraid. The person I'm looking for is not mythological, they definitely existed.

Another Clue

Postby Toxophilite » Thu Oct 30, 2008 11:05 pm

Sorry not Tolkein.

OK I’ll give you a clue but from now on you have to explain the original riddle ‘fully’ and not just give the answer. If you name the correct person but with an inadequate explanation I will just say that your answer is wrong so as not to give the game away. So be careful if your not sure as you might help someone else.

Clue: “Stan’s wealthy uncle became one of these after taking something from Lydia” - McCartney et al

Solution

Postby Darwin » Thu Nov 13, 2008 3:26 am

Had a guess at this yesterday and after Toxophilite had confirmed my answer he asked me to post my solution. So here is the PM I sent him plus his notes!

I think the answer is:

Emperor Tiberius

Thinking as follows:

Clue: centre-stage between me and acting advisor

Me =Toxophilite = Lover of Archery = Archer.

Further backed up with reference to 2000 GBP – a "Geoffrey Archer" in slang.

Clue: NX-01

NX-01 is the original Starship Enterprise Captained by Captain Archer – played by Scott Bakula. The Pilot episode was “Broken Bow” ("A damaged weapon starts the voyage to find me "?)

Clue: “Stan’s wealthy uncle became one of these after taking something from Lydia” - McCartney et al

Pink!!! Confirmed on next clue with link to audio of Lily the Pink. A song by The Scaffold. One of whose members was Mike McGear (real name Peter Michael McCartney – Younger brother of Paul McCartney).

Song was based on the "The Ballad Of Lydia Pinkham",

In “The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case” Stan has a "wealthy uncle" Ebeneezer. In the song…

"Well Ebeneezer thought he was Juilius Ceasar
And so they put him in a home
Where they give him medicinal compound
And now he's emperor of Rome!"

Clue: Aye Klav Divs

Popular pronunciation of “I Claudius”. Something to do with the Latin peculiarity of writing u’s as v’s?

Clue: Take a quantum leap between a Scot and a Frenchman and discover who has centre stage

Reference to “Quantum Leap” where Scot(t) Bakula played “Sam Beckett”.
(Spent a while off in historical Beckett land! As well as looking into Ziggy being the advisor! )

The Frenchman must refer to Jean-Luc Picard played by Patrick Stewart in "Star Trek: Next Generation". He also played Sejanus in the TV adaptation of “I Claudius”. A friend and confidant of Emperor Tiberius.

Therefore the advisor is Sejanus acted by Stewart?

Centre stage again refers to Star Trek. Who was "Centre Stage" between Archer & Picard? Archer was the first Captain and Picard was the third. The second, and "Centre Stage" between the two, was James T Kirk. Even more "Centre Stage" is his middle name “Tiberius”!!

This clue remains a mystery.

Clue: it’s reported the advisor to whom you seek was taken by alien family …..
yet both were in crisis according to "The Book of Crypts" Parts 1 and 2

Is this a reference to Sejanus in the Star Trek novel “The Captains' Honor” ?

"The Book of Crypts" : a series of AD&D scenarios?

I had great fun! Thank you!

Explanation from Toxophilite

The clue you didn't get was a reference to the drama (crisis) "I Claudius" which was based on two books by Robert Graves - "I Claudius" and the sequel (Part 2) "Claudius the God". Sejanus's low birth status was enhanced by being adopted into the Aelian (it's reported - sounds like)gens by Aelius Gallus.

I haven't, as of yet, got another riddle to follow. But I'm working on it. :D

If someone else has one ready to go and would like to step in please PM me. :D

Thanks again, Toxophilite. Good fun.
