Can just picture the control log for the British Transport Police -
12:00 MOP spotted on under side of bridge
12:05 BTP report MOP clear of site - will contact NR inspection team to check site
12:55 NR inspection team on site, nothing to report, suspected box found, contact BTP emergency.
13:00 Bomb disposal on route, suspect package on main beam of bridge.... etc.
17:00 Geocaching makes headline on BBC News site.

If anyone is interested in Geocaching, Garmin are running a competition at the moment, and giving away free unactivated geocoins.
More info here :D

is this what geocaching is :

A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little value??

whats the point of the game?

The point is not to score points (although for some it is...)

"going places you never thought of going to"
"pointing others to the most beautiful localtions in your area"
"finding the most beautiful locations elsewhere with little preparation, just guided by satellites"
"finding treasures much, much easier than finding a Free Isis"
"finding nice views and fresh air on the way"
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

I like to define Geo-caching as the ultimate distraction to pointless hill walking.

"are you one of the many hunderds of people who would love to go hill-walking, but don't see the point? - - now, with technical tupperware hunting, that pointless trek has a purpose... Find plastic boxes, with damp log books, collect rusty badges, follow arrows that lead no where... all this and more"

Also creates great confusion for the police .... Imagine getting questioned why you were walking around a motorway service stop or lay-by at four in the morning, while shining a torch in the bushes and looking at a "mobile phone".

-mind finding a geo-cache (multi-cache) while looking for the Dundee Free-search. Twas a bit of a woo! moment.

My wife nailed it I think:

It keeps me happy, as I am playing around with technology while out on a walk.
It keeps the kids happy as they are looking for "treasure".
It keeps her happy as the rest of us are all happy and she can enjoy the walk. :D
