Riddle Number 4 TSI

This is the one I choose and let me tell you I am looking up things that I would have never dreamed of had it not been for this riddle. Just curious to see who on here is also going for this riddle and how many tries people have used. I am currently on 2 but if I had the oppurtunity it would be a lot more then that. Oh and Puzz feel free to offer help at anytime. because we all know how much of a chatty cathy you are when it comes to these things.

i saw that somebody solved riddle number 4 today... and whoever that was... congratulations - that was so hard

how if you dont mind explaining did you get belt...
it still doesnt make sense to me

The United States Marine Corps was born in Philadelphia.
Tun Tavern was a tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is traditionally regarded as the site where the United States Marine Corps held its first recruitment drive.

In 1747, the St. Andrew's Society, a charitable group dedicated to assisting poor immigrants from Scotland, was founded in the tavern.

The musette de cour or baroque musette is a musical instrument of the bagpipe family =Scottish link

Between 1860, when the first Championship was played, and 1870, the prize for the winner of the competition was the Championship Belt. The Belt was commissioned by Prestwick Golf Club. It had silver fittings and was engraved with the Arms of Prestwick Burgh. The rules of the competition stated that the Belt would become the possession of the golfer who won the Championship three years in succession. In 1870 Tom Morris Junior completed a trio of victories to become the owner of the Belt.

Riddle went something like this

Born November 10th in Philadelphia, the always faithful, name the tavern and discover the musette de cour connection, and that which came before the wine.

I thought it had something to do with a bag that the Marines used called a Musette but alas I fear that was to in the box for Puzz.

Is the answer missing some sort of coherent connecting link?.

It seems to me, there are several unrelated thoughts with no relevant connecting link amongst them.

Ok, so lets revierw- I understand how the Marine Corp, Philadelphia, Tun Tavern are joined together. And maybe can see how St. Andrews is related but very vaguely.

Now where in the riddle does it request St. Andrews????
I know that St. Andrews was founded in the Tavern and had something to do with the Golf Championship but why is that relevant? Maybe its just add'l info to throw us off track?

Also, what does the musette de cour have to do with the final answer, how is that related. Its a musical instrument, and has no relevance.

No wonder it takes so long get the answer, these riddles seem to jump from one thought to the next without any relevance to the former bit of info.

Then again maybe its just me.
Puzz, i guess i am just not sharp enough to answer the riddle.

Maybe i should start my own forum called the 0.1% Underachievers cause i still cannot figure this riddle out, even with the answer spelled out in front of me.

Please if anyone can explain it better, please let me know, or if anyone else is just as confused as I, I welcome your responses too.

I solved this riddle... and I just want to ask... puzz

I know you wrote it... but.. that's not how I got the answer.

I went a different way. but very similar..
no... pretty much the same... just followed a french thing first.

I was confused at first because.. the musette de cour is a french bagpipe..

it all makes sense.. I would not have known that Claret was a type of wine unless I followed the Ben Franklin link first.. then I was thinking... ok forget french court bagpipe.. becuase musette de cour is actually of french origin. I though of St. Andrews golf course.. and a little reading about the tournament... you find out about the Claret Jug and the Belt

and the Claret Jug was offered after the belt was.

my first guess was Claret.
second guess was Bread

and here is how i came up with the wrong answer of Bread...

obviously tun tavern bla bla.. scottish link --->St. Andrews....
St. Andrew was one of the 12 deciples...
at the laste supper Christ broke the bread before giving the wine.
