I've found a couple of geocaches where they've been hidden inside a metal railing. A lot of metal tube railings tend to have a rubber gromet pushed into the end to neaten it up. In some cases, those gromets have been taken out, the cache has been put in, and then the gromet has been pushed back in.

Just a thought.

I thought of that on my first trip as it seemed most likely with a handrailing being the zigzag. All the handrailings there end in a wall or end with a rounded steel end welded on. So there is no way to hide anything in the railings. If the weather isn't super crappy tomorrow I might head up there again.

So the weather was less than ideal to head up there today, but the forecast for tomorrow looks to just be overcast for most of the day so hopefully I can go up tomorrow.

So still did not find it after trip 6 up there. I had to take care of some things in the morning and wasn't able to get up there until about 2, and since the museum closed at 4 I decided to just explore outside some more and take pictures (I would rather pay the entrance fee when I get a full day of searching). Once I get the pictures onto my computer I'll post them here and see what other people think.

Well here are some more pictures of where I've been looking. The overview pics are just to show the area with arrows corresponding to the close-up picture to view. I described each picture. If there aren't close-up pictures of areas that I pointed an arrow too, it's because I couldn't find anything worthwhile to take a picture of. By this I mean there wasn't any place after searching that looked like it could hide a coin unless he dug a hole in the ground and buried it or carved a hole in a solid wall.

JTobcat...i really think it is inside....only thing i found outside was in your pictures...there is a company called rainbow that makes playground equipment..but i really have a feeling it is inside...looks like we may have to bite the 27 dollar bullet again to have another look :?

See, I'm not completely against it possibly being inside, its just all the hints seem to point to it being outside. I have recapped below and my thoughts.

"you will only be able to see it thru one eye"
-I am almost certain that this hint is telling us we have to look through a periscope for part of the riddle, the periscope is the only thing I have ever come across in the exhibit that you have to use one eye for. This narrows it down to the two periscopes in NTAS and the one outside U-505.

"If you look closely you will sea!"
-I believe this hint was given to help us figure out what NTAS stood for as the S is for Sea. And possibly telling us that the coin is hidden extremely well.

"The coin is in Chicago - somewhere !"
-Do I really need to explain?

"Just to clarify one point; The clue DOES lead you to an exact location!"
-This makes me believe that the zigzag is a defined thin line, with something to hide the coin in at one end or the other.

"What I would say is that you have to be in the N:TAS exhibit to play the eye spy game."
-Since I still believe the game of eye spy relates to looking through a periscope, this would eliminate the periscope outside U505 as a possibility as you cant be in NTAS and look through the U505 periscope. So this just leaves the two periscopes in NTAS.

"From JTobcat's earlier description I can guarantee that they have been within feet of the Isis (coin)."
-I just feel like I've done a better job of describing on what I searched outside rather than inside. If ade can guarantee that I've been within feet of it, it has to be based of a description that he has no doubt about what I'm referring to. So this has to be based off of something i specifically said and described precisely. For the most part, most of the interior descriptions of searching included a lot of general areas.

The reason why I am so bent on this being outside is b/c I feel confident that the riddle has to do something with the periscopes (as even the picture clue is of a U-boat periscope), so why have so much point to the periscopes and then not use them. And since the periscopes only look outside it must be out there. That and its cheaper for me to search outside and there are many more places to look whereas inside has been searched pretty well by not just me, but everyone else too. (I still think its the rainbow looking object and/or zigzag that is stumping us all)

thinking back to the Alcatraz riddle answer and how you had to dig down into the sink... have you tried opening things or digging into things to try and find it.... if there are things to disassemble or open

"you will only be able to see it thru one eye"

Could it be that if the coin is placed in a crack/gap between two objects then you may only be able to see it by looking into the crack with one eye by getting up really close (if you know what I mean)...

Just a thought
