Rubiks Cube 5x5!

Postby gregtorius » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:22 pm

Well I went and bought it!

I got the 3x3 a while back, and can complete it in about 2-3mins ( no world record I know ) , so I decided to go for the bigger challenge. It still lies jumbled up on my desk...... I'll let you guys kow if I ever complete it! I think I'll have to get some online hints though

I met a bloke in USA who solved the regular 3x3x3 one by a sort of mental "program". He was a computer scientist and worked almost entirely in binary...

He just broke down the puzzle into 1s and 0s, then found the "solution" for any combination of 1 and 0.

I'd like to see him work at this one :)

I used to pull the coloured stickers off my old rubics cube and stick them back on in the right order lol .. it worked until the stickers lost their stickiness

Bought mine 5 years ago - still haven't solved it! Remember around 1979 when I first got a 3x3 cube and learned at school to solve it, then the snake and then the clock. Picked up a 3x3 about 6 months ago and found I could still remember how to do it!

Wow, that's amazing! I really want to play with one... not because I have a chance of EVER solving it, but just because it looks like it FEELS cool.

I wonder what the inside looks like?

Remember finding, a good while back, a program running a 100 cube. obviously the mouse work on the screen would be too much for the average human. There was an auto setting and the program would run and solve it itself. Fascinating to watch the thing get solved. It was all to do with solving the top first, then the sides before flipping and solving the last face.

actually, i think it's different for the rubix cube's bigger than 3x3x3..
the 4x4 and 5x5 are solved in different methods..

I can do all of the rubix cubes, 2x2 3x3 4x4 and 5x5..

once you can do these all, then you will be able to do the even bigger ones..

They have prototypes for cubes bigger than 5x5 but still perfecting it because the bigger ones are unstable..

The example cube I saw was a purely digital program.
in other fields... anyone on here able to whip the Rubiks Magic with one hand? Finally got round to cracking the pro.edition that a friend gave me to replace the standard they broke.

I will do it one handed, behind my back, while blindfolded..

at the same time, I will solve the ISIS in my other hand, behind my back, and blindfolded..

Since both hands are behind your back, I think the blindfold is a bit redundant

nah.(4teen). he's just showing off. Add the fact he's standing on one foot at the top of a very tall and narrow mast in a high wind area, and the wow factor goes right out the window.
